30th Anniversary Celebration
Contra and Square Dance Weekend
September 19-21, 2008
Swallowtail is hosting a weekend of music and dance celebrating three decades of making music
together. From the start, Swallowtail has helped inject new energy and sounds into New England
contradance music. Swallowtail will be joined by two other great bands with whom it has
strong ties — Wild Asparagus and Elixir.

Nestled in the beautiful Berkshire Mountains of Western Massachusetts, Camp Becket is the
birthplace of the “Becket” formation. We have chosen this site not only for its lovely setting but
also for its wonderful dance hall. To find out more about the facility please visit the Camp Becket

person cabins with built in bunks (no plumbing or electricity in cabins) which are grouped in

This Friday, Sept. 19th, TGIF will be held at the Estonian House.

Schedule:
TGIF @ BROOKHAVEN on Friday, Sept. 19th, 2008:
Place: Estonian House, 20 Middle Island Blvd., Middle Island, New York;
Admission: $16 per person includes all;
(8-day pass, $100 per ticket for new purchases).

7:00 - 8:00 pm: Buffet dinner;
8:00 - 9:00 pm: “Samba” dance lesson by Michael Rodriguez; (Samba lessons from beginners level up);
9:00 - 11:30 pm: DJ music, general ballroom & latin dancing.

NOTE:
On Friday, Sept. 26th our TGIFs @ Brookhaven resume at Brookhaven National Lab.

!!!DIRECTIONS TO THE ESTONIAN HOUSE:

** Estonian House, 20 Middle Island Blvd., Middle Island, New York

Go to LIE Exit 68 north on William Floyd Parkway (There are signs to:
Brookhaven National Laboratory) From William Floyd Pkwy, at the light that marks the entrance into Brookhaven National Laboratory, turn left unto Longwood Rd. (instead of turning right into the Lab).

After the first light on Longwood Rd. you will pass the Longwood Junior High on your left; then, at the next light, also on your left is Longwood High School.  Go to the end of Longwood Rd. down the hill; at the light, turn right unto YAPHANK-MIDDLE ISLAND RD(CR-21); go about 2.4 mi., crossing over Rte. 25 (Jericho Tpke). A little further down the road, on your left, you will see a sand & gravel, and pre-cast concrete factory, and then a large “HARDWARE” sign. Immediately after that, take the first left unto MILLER PLACE YAPHANK RD; go about 0.8 mi and then you hit a 4-way crossing.

At the crossing, turn LEFT unto WHISKEY RD. and go about 0.6 mi. Watch for the first intersection sign! Then, turn LEFT unto MIDDLE ISLAND BLVD. About
0.2 mi down, on your right, you will see a chain link fence and then a large sign “HILL”.

DO NOT PASS THIS SIGN! YOU ARE NOW AT THE ENTRANCE TO THE ESTONIAN CAMPGROUNDS.

There is also another large sign inside the fence, “Estonian House”. Go right in, and park anywhere on the grass on the south side of the clubhouse.

The entrance to the clubhouse is on the WEST side of the building (not on the side facing the parking area), so just walk around a little bit.

BNL Social & Cultural Club (BNL)

The BNL Social & Cultural Club holds weekly dance socials (TGIFs) and workshops at the North Ballroom, Brookhaven Center, Brookhaven National Laboratory every Friday evening from 7 to 11:30 pm.

Unless otherwise noted, workshops and lessons are from 7:10 pm to 9:30 pm with a food break in-between, followed by open social dancing up to 11:30 pm at the Brookhaven Center, Brookhaven National Laboratory, Upton, New York.

Cost per person: $15(members)/$20(non-members), or $8/$12 for social dancing only without the lessons; members rate applies also to all Bera members with BNL ID, SDLI members with ID, students with school ID, and all subscribers of the Social-L list and the Yahoo DanceLovers group. (Special events have different rates).

Dance socials are open to the general public, but require a photo-id at the BNL front gate.
