Dave & Kim Lindy Hop Workshop at Brown U., Providence RI!!!

The Brown Swing Club will be hosting a DAVE & KIM WORKSHOP on April 14-15, 2007!!

Dave Frutos and Kim are six time US Open finalists, including their title as the 1998 US OPEN Lindy Hop Showcase Champions, and have film and television credits, including “Mulholland Drive”, “Beverly Hills 90210”, “Everybody Loves Raymond”, “Ally McBeal”, were choreographers for “The 13th Floor” and “Pearl Harbor”, and appeared in Brian Setzer’s “Jump, Jive ‘N Wail” music video.  With their upbeat teaching style and clear explanations, Dave and Kim will teach you the Lindy Hop social dance skills that are needed for a solid foundation, and the Flash and Trash moves you can’t get enough of for jam circles, or just for fun!

This weekend swing dance extravaganza features:

- Eight workshop classes with nationally acclaimed instructors Dave Frutos and Kim Clever!
- Saturday evening swing dance featuring the big band sounds of “The Swing Legacy”!
- Lindy-Hop demo by Dave & Kim at the dance!

All lessons and the dance will be held at Brown University, in Leung Gallery(2nd floor of the Faunce Building on the Main Green), 75 Waterman Street, Providence RI, 02912.

Class Descriptions

A. Beginning Social Style Lindy Hop
A class for the newbies, or folks who want a tune up. No previous Lindy experience required.

B. Intermediate Lindy Hop
Patterns for people who are comfortable with the basic and Lindy patterns. Not a continuation class of beginning Lindy Hop

C. Charleston-Hop!
That’s right, Charleston for your Lindy Hop for beginner and beyond

D. Tricks Yo Mama Could Do!
All levels can enjoy this class of social moves and tricks that are easy to learn… AND easy to use!

E. Charleston for Sunday Morning Hangovers
Geared for Intermediate dancers that are comfortable mixing Charleston with Lindy and are ready for new Charleston patterns.

F. Fast Lindy Basics: The How To…
For Lindy hoppers that are experienced but would like some tips and help kicking it up a notch! (Beg/Int. level.)

G. How to Fake Musicality
David and I share our secrets on how to look and feel musical when you dance… even if you are not. (Intermediate level.)

H. Fast Lindy II: So you think you can dance…
Not for the weak… prepare to sweat! This is where David and Kim challenge the bad a**

Brown University Swing Club (Brown U. Swing)

The Brown University Swing Club offers weekly lessons and informal practices for anyone who loves swing or would like to learn. Lessons are open to and free for everyone, so please stop by! No experience, no partner necessary! The club also hosts an annual workshop, dances, and social events throughout the year.

Ballroom A of the Student Activities Center is located in the heart of the Stony Brook University Campus. They have a wonderful large and modern ballroom for dancing and instruction.

Directions: Nicolls Rd North, Left at the 3rd Entrance Stony Brook Sign. Go up the hill and make a Right onto Circle Road. Continue to 3rd Stop Sign, make a Left onto Campus Drive. Take the immediate Left onto John S Toll Road and immediate Right into the parking lot. Walk in the same direction to the SAC about 500 ft away. It has large glass windows in the front lobby

You're Invited!

Join a friendly group of people for a mix of East Coast Swing, Savoy Lindy Hop, West Coast Swing, Balboa and some Ballroom dancing. No partner is needed and beginners are welcome.

Every Tuesday Evening

Beginner dance lessons start at 7:30 PM with dancing between 8:00 PM & 10:30 PM. We meet at Huntington Moose Lodge, 631 Pulaski Road, Greenlawn, NY.

Admission on non-band nights is $4 for members, $5 for students and $6 for nonmembers. Slightly higher band nights.

First Saturday of Month

We meet at the Smithtown Historical Society's Brush Barn. Beginner swing lesson at 7:30 PM, with dancing between 8:00 PM and 11:00 PM.
